Cleveland will send 2014 number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins and forward Anthony Bennett — the top pick in last year’s draft — and a protected 2015 first round pick to Minnesota for Love, with Love agreeing to sign a max 5-year contract that will be worth over $120 million with the Cavaliers following the 2014-2015 season. The teams cannot confirm details of the trade until August 23rd, the first day Wiggins is officially eligible to be traded.
Acquiring Love to paid with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving would immediately vault the Cavaliers to the top of the Eastern Conference, on paper. In James, Love and Irving, the Cavs will have three All-Stars capable of scoring 20+ points per game from all over the court. Love is a rare NBA talent that can knock down threes in bunches while also being one of the NBA’s best rebounders. James is, well, LeBron and Irving has averaged 20.7 ppg over his first three seasons in the league.
For his career Love has averaged 19 points and 12.2 rebounds and is coming off of a 26-ppg, 12.5-rpg 2013-2014 season with the Timberwolves.
