Per a report via Sports Illustrated, LeBron James will be signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I always believed that I’d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didn’t know when,” James stated in the essay. ” After the season, free agency wasn’t even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasn’t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.”
LeBron left the Cavs four years ago to chase championships with the Miami Heat, and succeeded. He now returns to a Cavaliers team that is loaded with talent in All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving, a young core and is primed to compete, if not for a championship at least for a mid-tier playoff seed.
“In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have,” James stated. “I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home.”
The Heat now become a franchise that appeared in four straight Finals to a team that will struggle to contend without James and Chris Bosh, who is now a lock to sign with the Houston Rockets. Dwyane Wade is the lone All-Star left on the roster, and his future in Miami is even in question after he opted out of the remaining two years and $40 million of his contract.
If anything you may choose to question his loyalty, but you can’t fault James for not having a flair for the dramatic. Now the question is whether or not the Cavaliers will give him enough help to win a championship in Cleveland.
