According to a report from Jay Glazer, All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a four-year extension. The new deal will make Sherman the highest paid DB in the NFL. Sherman’s deal is worth $40 million guaranteed, with a total value of $57.4 million.
“This is a great moment for my family, foundations and the people who supported me to this point,” Sherman stated via his personal website. “Hard work and execution got me to this moment, the Seattle Seahawks have backed up that respect with this contract.
“Greatness is realized from countless hours of work, studying, practice, sacrifice and courage. This is just the beginning and I will continue to set the bar higher and higher on and off the field.”
Sherman has well exceeded the expectations of his draft status in his first three years in the NFL. Seattle drafted Sherman in the fifth round out of Stanford in 2011, and he has quickly established himself as not only one of the league’s best defensive players but also one of the NFL’s most polarizing figures, thanks to his brash personality on and off the field.
In three seasons, Sherman has registered 141 tackles and 20 interceptions, including 8 in each of the past two years. The Compton, CA native was drafted 154th overall after starring for the Stanford Cardinals. His previous contract was set to pay him $1.89 million for the 2014 season.
