Things just got a lot tougher for opposing offenses in the AFC South. After speculation all over the board about who the Houston Texans would pick they decided to go with the most talented player in the draft, selecting defensive end Jadeveon Clowney first overall in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Clowney is one of the most scrutinized players in recent memory and has been criticized for an apparent lack of effort at times during his junior season. The 6’6″, 270-lb super-athlete registered just 3 sacks last season after 21 sacks as a freshman and sophomore.
The Texans are still in need of a quarterback but with Clowney, the Texans can field one of the NFL’s most dangerous pass-rushing duos by pairing him with J.J. Watt off of the edge on opposite sides. Clowney’s side, speed and pure athleticism could make him one of the best defensive players in the league before long. The only question is whether or not he has the desire to be.
