Joe HadenDefensive back Joe Haden and the Cleveland Browns have agreed to terms on a five-year, $68 million contract extension, ESPN reported Tuesday. Haden confirmed the report via this tweet:

Haden’s extension comes on the heels of Seahawks corner Richard Sherman’s monster 4-year deal worth $57.4 million, putting Haden just behind Sherman in annual contract value — Sherman’s contract has an ACV of $14.3 million; Haden’s $13.6 mil.

The Browns have been focusing on improving their defense all off-season. They traded out of the fourth pick to select CB Justin Gilbert 9th overall in last week’s NFL Draft, and still got their QB of the future when Johnny Manziel was still on the board for their pick at 22nd overall.

Haden, the 7th overall pick in 2010, has registered 186 tackles and picked off 13 passes in four seasons with the Browns. He is widely regarded as one of the NFL’s premier shutdown corners, and his contract value now validates that reputation.
