Grady Sizemore was out of baseball for the past two seasons. Sizemore had once looked like a five-tool player that could be a perennial All-Star, but a slew of injuries—most notably surgeries on both knees—derailed his promising career.
After signing with the Boston Red Sox this winter and impressing in Spring Training, though, Sizemore earned the starting center field spot. He made his presence known on Opening Day at the plate:
The solo homer came in Sizemore’s first regular season MLB game since September of 2011 and was his first long-ball since July of that year.
If he can stay healthy, the Red Sox may have added another gem to help in their World Series defense this season.
