The Indiana Pacers have agreed to sign free agent center Andrew Bynum for the rest of the season. ESPN first reported Indiana’s interest Friday night with the Pacers confirming the move early Saturday morning:
Larry Bird on Bynum: “We are obviously happy to have him join our team… With the minutes he gets, he should be a valuable addition.”

Bynum averaged 8.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 24 games with the Cavaliers before being traded to and released in a salary cap dump by the Bulls for Luol Deng. Bynum will primarily back up All-Star center Roy Hibbert, giving the Pacers a couple of capable big men to aid their chances of dethroning the Heat after falling to Miami is last year’s Eastern Conference Finals.
