The Memphis Grizzlies will be honoring gritty forward James Johnson by giving the first 5,000 fans through the turnstiles of the February 21 game against the Clippers free “GRIZZLIES” neck tattoos. But don’t worry, these neck tattoos are not of the permanent variety, rather they will be clear stickers that fans will be able to place on their necks, heads or any other body part they see fit.
Johnson has become a fan fave ever since joining the team on December 16 after a stint in the D-League, thanks to his hustle and hard work. The Memphis forward has a neck tattoo that reads NAYMIN 3.9.13 to honor his son Naymin who was born 6-weeks premature. After a length stay in the ICU little Naymin went home and is thriving 11 months later, so the team decided to honor Johnson and his son in a rather appropriate and whimsical manner.
This game day giveaway is definitely unique, and even if you’re against neck tattoos or tattoos in general, you can’t help but think this is a pretty cool promotion by the Grizzlies to honor one of their popular role players and his inspirational little boy.
