For four months last year Jameis Winston dazzled and amazed on the football field. The freshman quarterback completed 67% of his passes for 4,057 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also had 219 yards and four more scores on the ground. He racked up and impressive amount of postseason awards, including the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Look at anyone’s All-America Team and Winston is on it.
And he helped the Florida State Seminoles defeat the Auburn Tigers to capture the BCS national championship last month. Not a bad debut season, huh?
With the football season now in the rear view mirror Winston can turn his attention to another love, baseball. The No. 6 Seminoles get their season underway February 14 and will do so with three players listed as preseason All-Americans by Baseball America. One of those three is Jameis Winston, who was named to the third team.
Last year Winston started 20 games in right field and 10 as the designated hitter. With the bat he hit .235/.377/.345 with seven doubles, three triples, and nine RBI. Winston also appeared in 17 games as a relief pitcher, posting a 3.00 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 27 innings while holding opposing batters to a .176 average.
