In a recent interview with Grantland, Sacramento Kings outspoken center DeMarcus Cousins – who’s never been one not to speak his mind — was asked about how he feels about Los Angeles Clippers All-Star guard Chris Paul and was quite candid in his response, calling CP3 a cheater and saying that he doesn’t respect CP3’s style of play.
“It’s just, some players I don’t respect,” Cousins said. “Just their playing style of basketball. I don’t respect it. I feel like it’s basically cheating and I don’t respect a cheater. If that’s your tactic to winning, I don’t respect you.”
Those are strong words from Cousins in regards to a player who many consider to be among the handful of best leaders in the league. If you recall, Cousins wouldn’t let his teammate Isaiah Thomas shake hands with Paul after a loss earlier this season.
Cousins has taken some huge steps into developing into a leader himself, and you have to respect the guy’s honesty about a rival (more so personal to Cousins than between the Clippers and Kings as teams). And Cousins is backing it up on the court; with per-game averages of 22.6 points and 11.6 rebounds, Cousins is one of only four players in the NBA averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. The other four all happen to be wildcard MVP candidates : Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge and Blake Griffin.
