The Charlotte Bobcats brand, since it was established in 2004, hasn’t exactly been the most prosperous or marketable identity in the NBA. That, coupled with a fan effort to bring back a name the city of Charlotte has ties and history with, are a big reason why the Bobcats will become the Charlotte Hornets for the 2014-15 season.
On Saturday night as the Bobcats took on the Utah Jazz, there was a special ceremony to reveal the new identity and logos of the Hornets that featured a speech from Michael Jordan, former Hornets like Muggsy Bogues and Dell Curry coming out. They then showed this video, which revealed the logo:
The primary logo is seen at the top of the page, but the team’s “Back Buzz City” website featured a pyramid of their logos, which featured eight alternate logos, including the return of Hugo the Hornet:
I’m probably a bit biased on the matter, but it’s great to see a new era being ushered in for this franchise and to see that, despite a history of this organization making questionable decisions, they did a nice job with the logos.
