Sunday during Houston’s loss to the Oakland raiders, cameras caught Texans star receiver Andre Johnson and QB Matt Schaub arguing on the sidelines, followed by Johnson walking off the field before time expired in the 28-23 loss. Here’s video:
Following the game, when asked about his future with the Texans, Johnson didn’t have to much to offer besides stating that he’s under contract per CBS Houston:
“I’m under contract so I have to play my contract out,” Johnson said. ” I can’t do anything about that.”
Johnson, now 32, is still one of the better receivers in the NFL but still has three years and close to $30 million remaining on a seven-year deal he signed in 2010 and will be 37 once his deal expires, making him difficult to move with his current deal. When reporters later asked him whether he’s requested a trade, the typically classy veteran receiver answered as directly as expected.
“I never asked for a trade.” Johnson said when prompted if he was considering the option. He then asked reporters, “Did you hear anything about that? Well then okay.”
Things are visibly going from bad to worse for the Texans, and it appears as if some major changes are in need in Houston during the upcoming offseason.
