Earlier this week before the #5 Stanford Cardinals hyped matchup with the #3 Oregon Ducks, Ducks running back and Heisman candidate De’Anthony Thomas predicted that Oregon would score “at least 40” on the Cardinals defense.
After Stanford held Oregon to 20 points, limited Thomas to just 30 yards rushing and secured a 26-20 Thursday night, senior Cardinals players DT David Parry, LB Shayne Skov and DE Ben Gardner took to Twitter to rip Thomas’s prediction:
It's too bad words don't score points. 40?? Nope #TALKDAT

Ummm I'm havin trouble counting? How many points was that? U know what we'll give ya half

Last year 14 pts. This year 14 pts. Combined? 28. Still waiting on those 40 pts from the Oregon offense. So proud of my dudes tonight

The loss was Oregon’s first of the season and will almost certainly drop them a bit in the BCS standings. Thomas got a quick lesson on providing your opponent with bulletin-board material for motivation. Talk is cheap, and when you do talk big you have to be fully prepared to back it up.
