Bobcats head coach Steve Clifford hospitalized due to illness

steve cliffordThe Charlotte Bobcats are off to an impressive and have three wins in their first five games, or almost half of their win total from 2011-2012. Unfortunately the team could be without head coach Steve Clifford for their game against the Knicks Friday, as the first-year coach checked himself into a Charlotte-area hospital after not feeling well Thursday night. The Bobcats already picked up a 102-97 win against the Knicks earlier this week.

Clifford was named head coach after a lengthy career as an NBA assistant coach, including a stint as Knicks scout and assistant coach from 2000-2003. Assistant coach Patrick Ewing would take over if Clifford is too ill to coach Friday night.

If Clifford is indeed to sick to coach, it’ll be a bit ironic for Ewing to coach against the franchise that he played 15 years of his 17-year Hall of Fame career for.
