Gronk’s status had been a hot topic over the first six weeks of the season, as many believed the tight end was healthy enough to play after dominating in practices but was reluctant to suit up on game days. There was even speculation that Gronkowski’s absence was due to conditions of his contract that states that he would need to be healthy through 2015 to receive the full $55 million of the deal he signed last summer. Gronkowski has been sidelined due to the forearm he broke twice last season and required offseason surgery.
Gronkowski has scored 10+ touchdowns in each of his three seasons in the NFL and is a weekly matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Gronkowski’s return to the field gives Tom Brady and the 5-1 Patriots a trusted receiver to add to the youth they have endured so far this year, registering 55 receptions for 790 yards and 11 touchdowns in 11 games last year.
