NBA bench rider Kris Humphries became an overnight celebrity after his shocking, yet brief, marriage to reality icon Kim Kardashian. Humphries, now with the Boston Celtics, opted to part with the engagement ring he gave Kim K., with the gaudy ring fetching close to $800,000 in an auction for charity, according to a report from E! Online:
“It bounced between two phone bidders and two bidders in the back of the room,” the Christie’s spokesperson tells E! News. “Good participation all around. It was the last item in the morning session.”
The final sale price [of $749,000] far exceeded the presale estimate of between $300,000 and $500,000.
“Kris is very pleased with the final result,” Humphries’ rep told E! News of the sale, which a source tells us came through Christie’s Geneva office. The rep adds that Humphries hasn’t decided on which charity to donate the proceeds to, but that it’s a “top priority” for the 28-year-old basketballer.
Prior to his 72-day marriage to the reality show diva, Humpries was an emerging NBA player with the then New Jersey Nets and averaged 11.7 points and 10.7 rebounds from 2010-2012, but fell out of the Nets rotation last season before being dealt to Boston.
It’s a bit unfortunate that Kris Humphries now makes headlines more for reality show-type drama than his basketball exploits. But such is life when you get involved with the Kardashian clan. Just ask Lamar Odom.
