Josh Freeman to start again despite terrible Vikings debut

josh freemanMonday night against the Giants, recently acquired Vikings QB Josh Freeman put together one of the worst games you’ll ever see from a quarterback. Despite his poor performance, Freeman will again get the start in week 8 for Minnesota when they play the Packers, according to Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier.

Frazier attributed Freeman’s struggles more to the former Buccaneers QB displaying poor mechanics rather than preparation, saying that Freeman wasn’t squaring his shoulders properly on his throws. “The ball kind of sailed on him a few different times, but I don’t think it was a lack of preparation,” Frazier said.

Freeman completed only 20 of 53 passes for 190 yards, becoming the first quarterback ever to throw for less than 200 yards while attempting more than 50 passes. The Vikings only score against the Giants came on a punt return in the first half.

The Vikings don’t necessarily have a quarterback controversy, they just don’t have any good quarterbacks.┬áMinnesota was having success earlier in the season with Matt Cassel under center before signing Freeman to a one year deal for the remainder of the season. If Freeman doesn’t produce this week, Minnesota would be wise to go back to either Cassel or 2011 first round pick Christian Ponder if they plan to have the best chance to win games this season.
