A lot of hate was thrown Derrick Rose’s way for his decision to sit out the entire 2012-2013 season to rehab the torn ACL in his left knee. But in his first appearance at the United Center since his injury on the same floor, Rose gave fans something to look forward to this season and served notice to the doubters:
“I think I’m way more explosive now,” Rose said after scoring 22 points in 22 minutes. “Like getting to the rim. I think I can take contact a little bit better. And as far as jumping-wise, I think I can jump even higher. They tested my vertical — I increased it by 5 inches. I just didn’t show it yet because there’s no need to.”
If that’s true, than Rose’s vertical has increased from 37″ pre-injury to a whopping 42″. Rose was already one of the most athletic players in the NBA prior to the injury; adding to his vertical leap would put him in a whole other class.
Derrick Rose is indeed back, and appears to be just as good as ever, if not better.
