Bob Stoops’ SEC envy surfaces again

bob-stoopsFor some reason, Oklahoma Sooners head football coach Bob Stoops just can’t seem to let go of his obsession with taking shots at SEC football.

A few months ago, Stoops went on a rant about the SEC’s dominance of the BCS, calling it “propaganda”. Now, Stoops is jabbing SEC schools’ defenses, which for years are regarded as some of the best in college football.

“Just a few years ago, we had all the quarterbacks,” Stoops said in a small session with beat reporters, according to The Oklahoman. “And now, all of a sudden, we can play a little better defense and some other people can’t play defense.

“Funny how people can’t play defense when they have pro-style quarterbacks over there, which we’ve had. They’re all playing in the NFL right now.”

Couple things worth noting here. One, the SEC is the best conference in the BCS. Hands down. They currently have EIGHT teams ranked in the top 25. Next closest conference is the Pac-12, with five ranked teams.┬áPlus, the SEC has virtually dominated the BCS Championship games for years running, Alabama has a dynasty and even when SEC teams give up a ton of points, they still find ways to win. It’s just the way it is.

Stoops has to let go of whatever gripe he has against SEC teams. I bet if a head coaching gig opened up for him, Stoops would be quick to hop on board. Because if you can’t beat ‘em, might as well join ‘em, right?
