Milwaukee Braves center fielder Carlos Gomez is putting the finishing touches on the best offensive season of his major league career. He came into Wednesday batting .279/.332/.494 with 27 doubles, 10 triples, 22 home runs, 70 RBI, and 37 stolen bases. All represent career-highs with the stolen base amount tying his best for a single season.
In the first inning of Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves Gomez added to his home run total. The 27-year old launched his 23rd of the season off of Paul Maholm, which was followed by this.
An interesting note: Carlos Gomez never actually touched home plate.
Gomez and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman were both ejected.
If you’re thinking an incident following a home run involving the Atlanta Braves sounds familiar, it should. Benches cleared after Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez hit a homer against them earlier this month.
