While Calvin Johnson is the Detroit Lions wide receiver that gets the majority of the press, it’s Nate Burleson that has been quarterback Matthew Stafford’s safety valve out of the slot. Through week three, Burleson leads the Lions with 19 receptions.
However, the Lions are going to have to look elsewhere for a slot receiver considering the news coming from Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press on Tuesday morning:
Nate Burleson broke his arm in 2 places in an early morning car accident. Will undergo surgery. Obviously a huge loss for the #Lions.

Birkett tweeted soon after that he was told that this was not an alcohol-related incident.
With Burleson out for an unknown period of time, Ryan Broyles will likely slide into the slot alongside Megatron, finally having a chance to prove himself after a disappointing short career in the NFL.
Looking past football, though, we wish Burleson a speedy recovery.
