trent richardsonIt didn’t take long for the Cleveland Browns to bail on their season. According to a report from Adam Schefter, the Browns have traded 2012 first round draft pick Trent Richardson to the Indianapolis Colts for a first round draft pick:

Indianapolis was in need of depth in their backfield after starter Vick Ballard went down for the season with a torn ACL last week. Richardson gives the Colts a legit running threat to compliment second-year quarterback Andrew Luck and their passing game. Richardson has only rushed for 105 yards on 31 carries so far this season, but his ability to run between the tackles and excel in short yardage situations may be ideal for the Colts offense.

Browns offensive lineman Jason Pinkston summed up the move very simply:

Cleveland is also reportedly going to sign veteran running back Willis McGahee, if he passes his physical this week.

The Browns have began the season 0-2, and after losing starting quarterback Brandon Weeden to a thumb injury the team has apparently already began to focus on again rebuilding for the future. Trading Richardson for the Colts’ 2014 first rounder now gives the Browns two picks in each of the first, third and fourth rounds in next year’s draft and also gives Cleveland the inside track for the first overall pick, who many project to be Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

Richardson rushed for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns in his rookie season last year after the Browns selected him third overall in the 2012 NFL draft.
