Brian Urlacher is salty that Jay Cutler hasn’t called

jay cutler brian urlacherBrian Urlacher, the retired All-Pro Chicago Bears linebacker, has been in the sports headlines for his quotes a lot lately. This time, Urlacher is sounding a lot bit bitter that current Bears quarterback is the only former teammate that hasn’t called Urlacher since he’s been retired.

Urlacher recently sat down with Graham Bensinger and vented about the lack of post teammate communication when Graham asked if any of the Bears have given him the cold shoulder since he left the squad.

Urlacher’s response: “I did not hear from Jay … out of all the guys I played with.” Urlacher explained … “I felt like I stood up for him a lot more than anybody else did over the past 3 or 4 years in the media … ’cause that guy takes a lot of grief.”

Uh, what? So just because Urlacher chose to stick up for a former teammate, Cutler owes him a phone call to check on him? Granted, Cutler has a reputation as a bit of a jack, but they were teammates on a professional football team, not high school besties for crying out loud.

Who knew a player as intimidating as Urlacher could turn out to be so sensitive?

It’s hard leaving the game when you’re not ready to. Brian’s going to have to answer up for some of the things he’s said the past year or so. It doesn’t change the fact that he is the ALL TIME leading tackler on one of the best defensive football franchises ever – more than Butkus, more than Singletary, more than George… Brian, let your legacy be the way you played the game – not your hard feelings about putting the Corvette in the garage when you still had a little gas left in the tank. Activate the 24 hour rule – if something pisses you off… don’t speak out about it for 24 hours; simmer down and let it pass. You might find it gets you the gold jacket in year 5, not 7, 8, 9.
    Go Bears!

Urlacher decided not to take a pay cut and remain with the Bears. Someone needs to tell Urlacher that he is no longer a member of the team and he won’t be having that warm fuzzy feeling when he would hang out with the guys. It’s over Brian, move on. In addition, Urlacher had better be careful not to make the same mistake Tiki Barber made with Giants. Barber shot off his mouth after he joined the media after retirement and now none of the Giants will talk to him.

I believe Urlacher vented because he not only considers Jay a team mate but a friend. Jay should just respond. There is life after football and no matter people say about Jay, these are 2 great guys.

Jay is a jerk. Watch the news conference and that look on his face when he answers the question. He’s such a beat off. win a super bowl and shut up. And dont find yourself in a dark chicago alley Jay, with Brian on the other end. You throw a ball and get 5 yards when youre hit. Brian destroyed people.
