McCutchen line driveWith the new wildcard format in the MLB Playoffs, the wildcard teams get one game to give their best effort and head to the divisional series. In the NL, that matchup will go down Tuesday night between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds.

Since there’s only one game, it’s the time that teams want their stars to shine the brightest. However, that could be a difficult task for the Pirates now.

According to a report from Will Graves of the Associated Press in Pittsburgh, star centerfielder Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates was hit in the face by a line drive during batting practice on Monday afternoon.

Graves said that McCutchen walked off under his own power, but who knows how much that was him being a tough guy and how much pain he’s actually in.

With this happening within the hour, there’s obviously no word on his status for Tuesday’s game. At this point, though, it’s definitely something that could affect the game and something to keep an eye on.
