Yu Darvish pitching against the Houston Astros is unfair. We saw evidence of this during the 2013 season’s first game when he took a no-hitter into the ninth inning, losing it with just one out to go. That night he had 14 strikeouts during his 8.2 innings of work.
Monday, it was the Astros again who were the opponent for Darvish and again he was dominant. In eight innings Darvish allowed just one walk and a solo home run while recording 15 strikeouts. And here they are.
Chris Carter went down swinging in the fifth inning (not completely surprising since he entered play Monday second in the AL with 153 strikeouts) to give Darvish strikeout No. 200 for the season. The 26-year old now leads Major League Baseball with 207 in 153.2 innings pitched.
Darvish has now faced the Astros four times this season and has 43 strikeouts over 29.2 innings. Welcome to the American League West.
