There were rumors last week that point guard John Wall and the Washington Wizards were nearing an agreement on a contract extension. Wednesday those rumors were confirmed when Wall signed a five-year deal worth approx. $80 million with the franchise:

The extension gives Wall an annual salary higher than that of Stephen Curry (four years, $44 million) and Ty Lawson (four years, $48 million). Wall missed a large portion of the 2012-2013 season, but the Wizards were 24-25 in the 49 games with Wall active. Wall averaged 18.5 points, 7.6 assists and four rebounds while shooting .441 from the field in what was his best season to date.
Wall has career averages of 16.9 points, eight assists and 4.4 rebounds but is only a .243 career shooter from three-point range since being drafted first overall in 2010.
