Terrence Jones — a reserve forward for the Houston Rockets — was arrested and charged with harassment in Portland early Wednesday morning for allegedly stomping on the leg of a homeless person, reports KATU.com. Here are details:
While watching the group walk away from the bar, the sergeant observed a man, later identified as Jones, walk by a doorway where two homeless men were sleeping, according to police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson. The sergeant said Jones yelled, “Wake up,” then raised his leg and stomped down on one of the man’s legs. The men were sleeping in the doorway of 114 Northwest 3rd Avenue.
From the details, it seems as if Jones was coming off a night of partying and thought it would be funny to pick on the less fortunate for his own amusement. Turns out that was a pretty bone-headed idea. There’s nothing cool about a millionaire basketball player kicking a sleeping homeless man. Instead of making headlines for donating a few bucks to the less fortunate, Jones is in the news for harassing them. Brilliant.
Jones was a HS basketball star in the Portland area before playing two seasons for the University of Kentucky. He was drafted 18th overall in 2012 and played 19 games for the Rockets last season. He takes home the “dumbest athlete arrest of the Summer” award for 2013 in a landslide.
