kevin garnett paul pierceAccording to a report from Y! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski, the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets are engaging in trade discussions involving Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce:

Garnett would be required to waive his no trade clause before any trade for him can be executed. Boston’s interest in trading Garnett and Pierce comes as no surprise, as the team is clearly in a rebuilding period after allowing head coach Doc Rivers to become coach of the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this week.

The Nets interest in wanting to acquire the two aging stars in a bit of a surprise, but considering that Brooklyn had mixed success with Gerald Wallace at small forward and no real post compliment for Brook Lopez played a major role in their playoff exit this past offseason. Humphries’ role in the Nets rotation diminished throughout the season as it became clear that he was no longer in their long or short term plans, and his expiring contract of $12 million is an attractive asset for clearing cap space in preparation of the impressive 2014 free agency class.

We’ll update with more information as it becomes available.
