With one out in the sixth inning of a game between the San Francisco Giants and Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night, the Jays were trying to mount a comeback as they trailed 2-1.
Pitcher Josh Johnson was on second base with Jose Bautista to bat. Bautista hit a hot line drive towards third that was snagged by Pablo Sandoval, who then tried to throw to second to double-up Johnson. That’s when this happened:
Even Marco Scutaro looks baffled at umpire Alfonso Marquez calling that an out. I mean, Scutaro seemed to be a few inches off the bag to begin with; and that doesn’t even mention the fact that he dropped the ball!
Blown calls are seemingly becoming an epidemic these days. I’m not sure if that means that the MLB needs better umpires or if they need replay, but calls this terrible simply can’t happen.
H/T to GAMEREAX.
