When Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia fills out his lineup card and inserts the name Peter Bourjos he doesn’t necessarily do so for offensive purposes. That’s what Albert Pujols, Mark Trumbo, Mike Trout, and Josh Hamilton are for. Bourjos’ defensive capabilities are good enough to shift Trout, pretty impressive with the glove himself, to left field when Bourjos takes his position in center field.
Monday, the Angels activated Bourjos from the 15-day disabled list (left hamstring). Tuesday, the speedy 26-year old showed the wheel is in good shape by making this play to rob Baltimore Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy of his 14th home run.
As for Hardy, he’s seen this sort of thing from an Angels outfielder before.
