The Pittsburgh Pirates entered play on Friday with nine home runs on the season, the third fewest in Major League Baseball. In the second inning against Tim Hudson Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez took the total to double-digits with a shot that didn’t waste much time leaving the building.
The blast was Pedro’s second of the season. His first came Thursday and is also worth seeing.
Alvarez has struggled in the early going with just 6 hits in his first 52 at-bats (.115 avg). Hopefully these two long balls get Alvarez going and the 26-year old can approach, or surpass, the career-high 30 home runs he hit in 2012.
