We are coming closer and closer to the days in the NHL where wearing a visor is mandated. Too many players are being hit with pucks in the face and are being relatively seriously injured.
However, Tampa Bay Lightning center Nate Thompson proved that even a visor isn’t 100 percent effective when he was on the wrong end of this shot from Washington Capitals defensemen Mike Green:
Just look at the shattered remains of his visor and the blood dripping from his eye; that visor didn’t protect much on that play. That’s not to say that visors aren’t a really good thing for player safety, but just that it wasn’t effective in this instance.
Good to see that Thompson was able to skate off the ice under his own power; glad he’s alright, for the most part at least.
