Yes, it’s only spring training. Yes, the results of the games are largely irrelevant. Yes, it’s true that for established major league players like Miguel Cabrera and Jonathan Papelbon spring training doesn’t matter a whole lot as long as they make it through injury free.
None of that means we can’t appreciate what last year’s American League MVP and Triple Crown winner did in the top of the fifth inning today.
According to ESPN’s home run tracker, Cabrera’s longest blast of the 2012 season was 466 ft. Based on Charlie Manuel’s reaction I’m going to say this one went farther.
