Jim Valvano spent eighteen seasons as a college basketball head coach (Bucknell, Iona, North Carolina State) with his best years coming during a ten-year span at NC State, where he compiled a record of 209-112 and led the ACC school to the national championship in 1983.
Next Tuesday NC State (along with Texas, Georgetown, and UConn) will take part for just the second time in the Jimmy V Classic to benefit the The V Foundation for Cancer Research, the disease that took Valvano’s life much too soon at 47 years old in 1993. When T.J. Warren and the Wolfpack take the floor at Madison Square Garden they will do so in these special Adidas jerseys.
One of the better uniform tributes you will ever see, in any sport, and a reminder of one of the more memorable speeches the sports world has ever witnessed.
