During halftime of yesterday’s Monday Night Football matchup between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers, while Philip Rivers was plotting how to squander a 24-point lead and Peyton Manning was visualizing 35 unanswered points, World Golf Hall of Famer Phil Mickelson was taking aim at $1,000,000 in the “KPMG Chip4Charity” contest.
In a best of five (or even three) scenario I’d give Phil pretty good odds on hitting the bullseye, but unfortunately Lefty’s aim was just a bit off in his lone attempt.
“This is an amazing experience,” Mickelson said. “In golf, we don’t get this. The 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale has nothing on this. This was awesome, seeing the Jumbotron with my picture, as I’m looking up taking the shot, that was unique. That was something that was pretty cool.”
Another thing that’s pretty cool is the $50,000 raised during the process, which will purchase a decent amount of reading material for the children who benefit from the nonprofit organization First Book.
