Fourth year point guard Ty Lawson has agreed to a contract extension with the Denver Nuggets, keeping him from hitting restricted free agency and in a Nuggets uniform for at least the next four years. Lawson reported the extension himself via Twitter with Yahoo! Sports following up with the details:

Lawson excelled in his first full season as a starter in 2011-12, averaging 16.4 ppg, 6.6 apg and 3.7 rpg for the 38-28 Nuggets. The speedy guard was drafted 18th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2009 and quickly traded to the Nuggets.

For his career, Lawson has averaged 12 ppg and 4.8 apg in 206 games, 100 starts. The Nuggets now have a core of Lawson, JaVale McGee, Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler locked up through 2015.
