Per ESPN New York, Shaq is claiming that Nets center Brook Lopez is a better player than Lakers recently acquired Dwight Howard. Here is his reasoning as to why:
“What we have now are centers that are going to the European style, which is a lot of pick-and-roll. Dwight Howard, who’s a pick-and-roll player, some people say he’s the best center in the league, but me being an old-school center, I’m going to go with Robin Lopez and Andrew Bynum because they play with their back to the basket.”
Um, Shaq… don’t you mean Brook?
“Brook. Same thing. They’re brothers.”
Shaq went on to elaborate why he believes this, but come on now. Brook Lopez may be a poor man’s Tim Duncan offensively, but he doesn’t rebound or play defense, two strong suits of Dwight Howard. Howard also scores at around a 20 ppg clip, so he’s no slouch in that regard. It really seems as if Shaq has a personal vendetta against Dwight Howard, the NBA’s new ‘Superman’, a nickname Shaq went by in his playing days.
Funny thing is, for Shaq and Howard to have such tension, they sure have a lot in common. Both were #1 overall draft picks by the Orlando Magic before joining the Lakers. Both have goofy, playful personalities.
And both have an uncanny ability to put their foot in their mouths.
