Per NFLPA executive Director DeMaurice Smith, Roger Goodell has recused himself from the player’s appeal of their penalties for involvement in the New Orleans Saints Bounty. He will be replaced in the proceedings by former commish Paul Tagliabue:
I have been in touch with Roger. He has formally notified me that he will recused himself. Paul Tagliabue will step in.

Tagliabue, 71, was the NFL commissioner from 1989-2006 before retiring and giving way to Goodell. Tagliabue is currently a senior counsel at the Covington & Burling law firm as well as the chair of Georgetown University’s board of directors.
