The Minnesota Timberwolves were expected by many to compete for a playoff spot this season. Unfortunately those expectations have taken a small hit as All-Star forward Kevin Love will be out 6-8 weeks after breaking his shooting hand, the team announced Wednesday:

Love played 31 minutes in the Timberwolves preseason game Tuesday against Euro team Maccabi, scoring 24 points with 8 rebounds and 2 assists in 31 minutes. The team announced that the injury occured during a workout Wednesday morning. He joins star Timberwolves PG Ricky Rubio on the sideline. Rubio is still out a couple months after tearing his ACL last season.
Love will most likely be replaced in the lineup by second-year forward Derrick Williams, the 2nd overall pick from the 2011 draft. If Love takes the full 4-6 weeks to recover, he should return to the T-Wolves around late-November to early December.
