If you hadn’t heard of Sol Republic prior to this summer there’s a good chance you found out if you were able to catch any of the swimming events during this year’s Olympics. While many swimmers, including America’s Cullen Jones and Sun Yang of China, opted for the ever popular Beats by Dr. Dre headphones on the pool deck Michael Phelps could routinely be seen sporting Sol headwear.
Earlier today the electronics manufacturer made available to the highest bidder, via eBay, 21 pairs of headphones worn by Phelps during the London games.
Among the auctions listed are the pair he wore prior to the 4×200 freestyle relay final (which gave him Olympic medal #19) with a current bid of $760.00. The price for the ones he had on before winning his last individual medal in the 100m butterfly is at $720.00 for the time being. The two fetching the most at the moment were worn ahead of his 400m individual medley preliminary ($1,350.00) and his final race, the 4×100 medley relay final ($1,000.00).
As a cheaper, less historic alternative you can pre-order a pair of the red, white, and blue Tracks HD Anthem headphones today so you can be the first to sport them when they’re available.
“The launch of SOL REPUBLIC’s eBay storefront provides a single destination for millions of eBay shoppers and music fans to shop SOL REPUBLIC’s highly sought after headphones,” said Noah Herschman, senior director and chief merchant for eBay Electronics. “We’re honored to be a part of raising money for the Michael Phelps Foundation and to offer these limited-edition headphones.”
Music has always been a big part of my life – it helps me focus and inspires me for every race,” said the most decorated swimmer in history Michael Phelps. “I’m a big fan of SOL REPUBLIC headphones’ sound and I like the colors and how you can change them up. I’m excited to partner with SOL REPUBLIC to offer the headphones I wore before every race exclusively on eBay to benefit my Foundation, which helps me to support the next generation of swimmers.”
