Earlier this week Oakland A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy was the victim of what has to be a pitcher’s worst nightmare when he was struck in the head by a line drive off the bat Erick Aybar. If you care to watch the video you can do so here. McCarthy suffered a brain contusion, fractured skull, and an epidural hemorrhage as a result of the play. He underwent surgery on Wednesday and was considered to be in a life-threatening situation.
Across the bay from Oakland in San Francisco the Giants began an important three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers last night. But the thought of extending their lead in the NL West wasn’t the only thing on the mind of the Giants.

The Giants-A’s hook up every year during interleague play to resume their spirited rivalry but it’s always good to see moments when sports are secondary. Salute to Giants organization.
In other good news Brandon McCarthy appears to be feeling well enough to resume tweeting again.
“Crazy about this children’s tylenol, can’t believe they give it to kids.”

The good news in all of this, is that I set up my fantasy lineups beforehand. So there shall be no excuses at this point.
