The men’s 100-meter final is one of the most anticipated events in the Summer Olympics and this year’s field was one of the best ever. It featured world record holder and 2008 Olympic gold medalist in the event Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake (100m winner at 2011 world championships), Asafa Powell (one-time world record holder in the event), Tyson Gay (U.S. 100m record holder), and 2004 Olympic gold medalist Justin Gatlin.
Bolt’s time of 9.63 seconds established a new Olympic record. Yohan Blake finished second (9.75) and Justin Gatlin placed third (9.79). Both Blake and Gatlin’s times were personal bests.
