Earlier today Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova to earn an Olympic singles gold medal at the Centre Court at Wimbledon. The gold adds to her already impressive singles resume that includes five Australian Open championships, one French Open crown, five Wimbledon titles, and three triumphs at U.S. Open.

Serena is now the only woman to win all four tennis major championships and a gold medal in both singles and doubles competition.

An accomplishment of that magnitude calls for celebration.

This isn’t going to be well-received by everyone. Guaranteed.

Serena and sister Venus will face Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka from the Czech Republic in the gold medal match of the doubles competition tomorrow.
