New era in Indy…

From 1998-2010 the Indianapolis Colts were fortunate to have one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time in Peyton Manning leading the offense and have a Super Bowl victory and 141-67 regular season record during that time to show for it. With Manning missing the entire 2011 season due to injury the Colts finished 2-14, winning their fewest number of games since going 1-15 in 1991.

The poor record granted Indianapolis the first overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, which gave the team the opportunity to select the man many felt could be the best quarterback to come along since Manning. Jim Irsay and the Colts decided to part ways with the iconic signal caller and drafted Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, thus beginning a new era in Indy.

7-time Pro Bowl defensive end/outside linebacker Dwight Freeney has been a member of the Colts since being drafted in 2002 and has contributed to the success the franchise enjoyed during Peyton Manning’s time there. Freeney recently sat down to discuss the transition period the team is in as well as his outlook for the upcoming season. Have a listen.

While many faces have changed Freeney and Robert Mathis will once again wreak havoc on opposing quarterbacks. Long time Manning target Reggie Wayne stuck around and will certainly make a life a little easier for Andrew Luck, who looked pretty good in his first preseason game. He played well last night after throwing a pick-six against the Pittsburgh Steelers too.

Freeney was diplomatic in saying this season isn’t all on Andrew Luck’s shoulders, and technically he’s right. But with Luck and fellow rookies Robert Griffin III, Ryan Tannehill, and Brandon Weeden all slated to start week one Luck will have the most pressure to succeed.

See.
