In a shocking event, Heisman Trophy candidate and potential NFL top draft pick Tyrann Mathieu has been kicked off of the LSU Tigers football team.

LSU Head Coach Les Miles announced today, “We did what we can do, but Tyrann Mathieu is no longer on the team.”

Mathieu was a key piece of LSU’s defense that was among the best in college football last season, leading the 13-1 Tigers to the BCS National Championship game. Mathieu finished the 2011 season with 76 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles and 4 touchdowns, two coming off of punt returns. Mathieu was also suspended for a game last season for the use of synthetic marijuana.

More information on Mathieu’s dismissal from LSU as it becomes available.
