2012 has been one strange year in sports so far…

Thursday in the Philadelphia Eagles first pre-season game, star quarterback Michael Vick was removed from the game after jamming his thumb on center Jason Kelce’s helmet. The Eagles pulled Vick as a precaution, and x-rays following the game were negative.

Apparently precaution didn’t fly with former NFL quarterback Tony Banks, who took to Twitter and made what appears to be a subtle jab Vick’s toughness:

I could understand Banks’ jab if he was actually a productive quarterback in the NFL, and not the owner of a 35-43 career record as a starter and set the record for fumbles as a rookie in 1996. Banks was also traded by the Rams in 1998 after going 14-29 in 3 seasons. The Rams just so happened to win the Super Bowl the following season.

Similar situation occurred in Baltimore in 2000, when the Ravens were 5-3 under Banks before he got benched for Trent Dilfer (TRENT DILFER!!!). The Ravens went 7-1 and won the Super Bowl with Dilfer starting.

Sounds to me like Banks is reaching for attention, like so many other athletes these days. And maybe it worked.
