Move over, Colt McCoy. At least one of the “QB controversies” of this offseason has been solved today. Browns named Rookie Brandon Weeden their new starting quarterback for the 2012 season.
This does not come as a huge shock to many, as McCoy is coming off a season with a completion percentage of 57.2. He passed for 2,733 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 13 games. He has just as many picks in his career as TDs at 20. This is, however, a shock to those who saw a bright career for the Texas star.
Brandon Weeden was selected 22nd overall in the 2012 draft from Oklahoma St. In his lseas year there he posted 4,727 yards, 37 TD’s and only 13 INT’s. He completed at least 70% of his passes five times that year.
The biggest worry with Weeden is that he will be a 29-year old as a rookie, so I think the Browns made a good call here. It’s definitely a good start for a team that has been struggling for years.
