During the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing Australian swimmer Stephanie Rice captured gold medals in the 200m and 400m individual medleys as well as the 4 x 200m freestyle relay, breaking world records in all three events. She was named World Swimmer of the Year and Australian Swimmer of the Year for 2008. Rice also received a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2009 for her achievements during the games.

Results haven’t been quite the same in London for Rice. She placed 6th in the 400m IM final and 4th in the 200m IM final.

In a recent radio interview the three-time Olympic gold medalist talked about her training for the 2012 games, which included assistance from a stripper pole.

“I did do some classes and I made one of my family members buy me the pole because I was, like, well this can be cross-training exercise,” the Telegraph quoted Rice as telling the radio station.

“But I don’t have it any more,” she said.

Rice battled shoulder soreness leading up to and during the games which certainly didn’t help her efforts to repeat her performance from Beijing. But at just 24-years old we should hear from her once again when the 2016 Olympics roll around, if she doesn’t retire.
