Just going up online & via SportsCenter: Sources say Suns have consented to sign-and-trade Steve Nash to Lakers for package of future picks
— Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) July 5, 2012
Nash’s contract will be for $25 million over three years. The Lakers are sending 2013 and 2015 first round picks and 2013-2014 second round picks to complete the trade. Nash had been hotly pursued by the Raptors and New York Knicks before being dealt to the Lakers. The Lakers were exploring their options at point guard after Ramon Sessions opted out of his contract following the season.
Nash, 38, averaged 12.5 ppg and 10.7 apg during the 2011-2012 season and was looking to play for a contender to end his career in contrast to the rebuilding Suns. Nash won consecutive MVP awards in 2004-2005 and 2005-2006.
For his career, Nash has averaged 14.5 ppg and 8.6 apg in sixteen seasons with the Suns and Mavericks. He was originally drafted by the Suns 15th overall in 1996.
