In light of everything that has been revealed regarding the Sandusky incident, Penn State University has taken down legendary head coach Joe Paterno’s statue Sunday morning, per the Associated Press:

Construction vehicles and police arrived shortly after dawn Sunday, barricading the street and sidewalks near the statue, erecting a chain-link fence then concealing the statue with a blue tarp.

Penn State President Rod Erickson said he decided to have the statue removed and put into storage because it “has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing.”

Given the circumstances, Penn State had little choice but to take down the statue or be subject to potential backlash in the future. Whether removing the statue is being done to save face or as a genuine gesture of remorse by the University, it’s the right decision.
